An innovative collection
Standing by the Seine near the Eiffel Tower, the Musee du Quai Branly has earned high acclaim. Opening in 2006 with strong support from ex-President Jacques Chiraq, the Quai Branly exhibits mainly primitive and indigenous art. It is one of the world's first museums to move beyond Christian perspectives to specialize in pre-literate cultures. The collection boasts 30,000 items from Asia, Africa, America and Oceania, including musical instruments and textiles. While other museums have mainly presented primitive non-Western European art from a cultural-anthropology perspective, the Musee du Quai Branly has gained worldwide recognition for its groundbreaking incorporation of artistic perspectives.
